Ethics reforms to clean up Illinois' tainted culture.

Illinois needs meaningful ethics reform now. I believe that starts with term limits, as we have abundant evidence of what State government looks like being run by career politicians only focused on getting re-elected. With reasonable term limits we can be once again be governed by citizen-servants.

We also need to be far tougher on corruption while working to eliminate “pay to play politics” in Illinois. As Mayor of Downers Grove, I implemented a number of reforms on which I campaigned. Our team at the Village enacted unprecedented and sweeping campaign and ethics reforms unlike any municipality in the State, maybe even in the Nation. As most are painfully aware, the State of Illinois has a terrible reputation of corruption, and I felt it necessary to implement real initiatives and reforms in Downers Grove that showed we can change our culture and repair our reputation. I will take this legacy of results to the state legislature and work to enact desperately-needed ethics reforms to make you proud once again to live in the great state of Illinois.
